Huh? What Blog?

Yes, we're back! Please forgive our absence, I have no excuse except the pressures of time. Lots going on since the last post. We were awarded a grant from the Florida State Library to build an addition on the Library and get the elevator we so desperately need. This is wonderful news and now the planning stages will highlight my working life.

As for daily goings-on at the Library, wait till you see what we've got! I'm a techno-geek, although I'm not the most talented with tech stuff. So when I heard about the Playaways (single books on MP3 players) I was very interested in acquiring some for our Library. Luckily we have a very dedicated and hardworking Co-op Director, Ginny Bird. She heard our need and applied for the Community Libraries in Caring (CLIC) Grant offered by the Florida State Legislature for 2008. We were awarded the grant and with the funds from that and a generous donation from the Baker County Rotary we have purchased Playaways for the Emily Taber Public Library. They will be ready for circulation as soon as we can get them out.

Naturally we have other great new items available for circulation at the Library. In our Bestsellers we've gotten in Jodi Picoult's Change of Heart, Sophie Kinsella's Remember Me?, Danielle Steel's Honor Thyself, and Kim Harrison's The Outlaw Demon Wails; just a taste to tempt your palate.

In our Audiobooks we have Lisa Scottoline's Lady Killer, Martha Grime's Dakota, and Stephanie Laruen's Where the Heart Leads. Many more goodies in this section.

For our teen readers we just acquired a new trilogy by Libba Bray, The Gemma Doyle Trilogy. It seems to be very popular. And we have the new series The Seer. Come in and check them out. We really appreciate all the recommendations from our teen and young adult readers, let us know what you want to read!

For our Intermediate readers, we have the new Mary Pope Osborne series: Tales From the Odyssey. She's the author that brought us the Magic Tree House Series.

This is just a sample of all the adventures and pleasures waiting for you at the Library!

See ya @ the Library!

Been awhile!

Between wrapping up the Summer Program, vacations, and various odds and ends at the Library there hasn't been much time to update the blog.

Well, school has started in Baker County and everyone is in a bustle. We've signed up oodles of kids and parents in the last couple of months--we would like to see every child of school age with a library card. For information about obtaining a library card, give the library a call.

Just a reminder, for our patrons with a computer at home be sure and come in the library to get your pin number. This allows you access to special services available on our website. It can really save time and with a busy school year starting time is at a premium.

The Emily Taber Public Library wishes everyone a happy and safe school year.

Come in and see us at the Library!

Zoofari Coming Tuesday!

Last week's programs were packed! Jodini gave her usual fantastic performance to 124 children and 39 adults. The crowd went wild!

Thursday was Charity's turn to read stories describing the manners needed while having fun and adventures in the Library. After all, no one wants to meet the Library Dragon in person! She presented her program to 60 children and 21 adults. Everyone had a great time!

Next week's programs are show-stoppers! Tuesday we have the Jacksonville Zoo coming and taking us all on a Zoofari! There will be all kinds of animals and the Zoo staff will have all kinds of information and fun animal facts to tell us. Come and join us as we learn about the different animals and their habitats.

Thursday will be Charity again with the travel section of the Summer News. She'll read stories of journeys and adventures that everyone can enjoy.

Come and have a great time @ the Library!

Summer Program sailing along!

We're having a great time this summer! The kids love the programs and our Summer News @ the Library is coming along. Kids, don't forget to bring in your articles and drawings for the Wall of Fame in the Library. We need them for the our Summer News!

Tuesday we had Kaleidoscope performing, they were awesome!

With all their furry helpers they managed to get the paper out!
Thursday we have Charity Raulerson presenting fun and giggles with the laughter portion of our Summer News. She'll read funny selections about every one's favorite animated characters and explain how cartoons are really animated comic strips. She'll also have books on hand that demonstrate how to draw comic characters.

Tuesday, June 19th we have Jodini, the magician. Jodini's show is always a blast!

We're going to have a great time and hope you can be there!
